The Best Homeschooling Resources

Are you thinking of homeschooling and don’t know where to start? We have been homeschooling for years and have found some great resources along the way. Homeschooling doesn’t need to be intimidating and don’t feel pressured to recreate the classroom environment at home. Your kids can learn math while helping you measure baking ingredients or science on your daily walk. 1-2 hours a day of instruction is plenty for learning for the elementary level, don’t feel like you need to fill the entire day with forced learning activities. Have fun, learn about some family history, research a country your kids are interested in visiting…anything counts as learning! This chart shows how many hours each grade level should be homeschooled each day. It’s not that daunting when you see it this way!

Luckily for you, homeschooling is currently the fastest-growing form of education and there are many families who have done it long before it became a temporary requirement. And we have some great resources for you! From educational videos and games to printable worksheets, here are some websites and apps that provide amazing resources for parents who are teaching their kids at home. Best Homeschooling Resources

BrainPop

BrainPop is one of our favorite resources and one we use often. Note that there is a junior version for younger kids! The videos are short, informative and come with an optional quiz at the end. Every subject is available, making it a great choice for homeschooling.

Reading Eggs

Reading Eggs is an app that makes learning to read fun for kids as young as 3. Though I do not recommend it for kids that age, we are firm believers in learning through play until they are much older! Math Seeds is included in your subscription, which we love as well.

Workbooks

If your kids like workbooks, one of the easiest way to homeschool is using the 180 Days of Workbooks. They are available in every subject for every grade level and make homeschooling simple.

Twinkl

Twinkl offers worksheets on many different subjects from pre-k all the way to 5th grade. They are currently offering a free month membership, all you need to do is sign up on the site and enter code PARENTSTWINKLHEPS at check out and your free trial membership will begin.

Mystery Science

If you have a science loving kids, this is for you! My daughter loves these videos and could watch them for hours. This is one of the best resources for k-5 science, with videos on just about any science subject.

Teachers Pay Teachers

This is one of the best resources and unlike others I mentioned, it goes up to grade 12 making it a great choice if you have high school kids.

Moby Max

Moby Max is another site we use on a daily basis. It’s fun, interactive and keeps your kids engaged.

Outschool

Outschool provides live online classes for kids as young as 3. Your kids can take classes like video game design or foreign language, really the possibilities are endless. My daughter has taken a few classes and we have been happy with the instructor every time.

Education.com

Want more traditional worksheets? Education.com provides tons of worksheets on pretty much every subject.

Go Noodle

Go Noodle inspires kids to be active with an interactive app. Kids will dance, jump, do yoga and many other active things.

DIY.org

DIY offers a huge library of step by step video instruction on pretty much whatever your child may want to learn. From photography to slime making, there is something on here for everyone.

National Geographic Education

This website has a lot of activities, articles, lessons on many different subjects like science, geography, arts and more.

Podcasts

We love Podcasts and listen to family friendly ones all the time! There are so many amazing ones on so many subjects, you are bound to find one that your child loves. We especially love the science ones, your child will learn so much just by listening!

Board Games

Want to teach your kids geography the fun way? Put away that map and worksheet and get out some games! We are a huge game schooling family and use games to teach lots of different subjects. Map and geography games are family favorites and we have quite the collection!

Prodigy

Looking for math? Prodigy is for students in grade 1-8 and provides fun, engaging games while teaching math at the same time.

Khan Academy

I am mentioning this one because of how often it is mentioned in homeschooling groups, though we haven’t personally tried it yet. Give it a try and see if it’s the right fit for your family!

YouTube

Yes, I said it. While we don’t like the mindless videos kids are addicted to on YouTube, the site is actually a great resource for homeschoolers. Check out channels like Lab 360 which has science experiments, Art Hub for Kids for art lessons or Make Me Genius for educational videos on lots of topics. There’s even videos for PE, Cosmic Kids Yoga being a very popular one.

Your Local Library

As homeschoolers, we spend a lot of time at the library! Many libraries also have digital media, which is a huge plus if you can’t get there to get a book.
